Data Currency & Updates
The Digital SAT uses a process called "equating" to ensure fairness across different test forms. While the general scoring framework remains consistent, specific conversions may vary slightly between test dates. Our calculator uses:
- The most recent published scoring tables from College Board
- Average conversions when multiple test forms are available
- Conservative estimates when exact data is unavailable
What We Don't Use

3. Raw to Scaled Score Conversion
The Digital SAT uses a multi-step process to convert your raw scores (number of correct answers) into scaled scores (200-800 per section).
Step 1: Calculate Raw Scores
Raw scores are simply the number of questions you answered correctly:
- Reading & Writing: 27 questions in Module 1 + 27 questions in Module 2 = 54 total (max raw score: 54)
- Math: 22 questions in Module 1 + 22 questions in Module 2 = 44 total (max raw score: 44)
- Important: There is NO penalty for wrong answers. Only correct answers count.
Step 2: Determine Module Difficulty Path
This is where the Digital SAT's adaptive nature comes into play. Based on your Module 1 performance, you'll be assigned a Module 2 difficulty level:

Step 3: Apply Section-Specific Conversion Tables
Each combination of Module 1 and Module 2 scores has a specific scaled score conversion. The conversion depends on:
- Total raw score (across both modules)
- Module difficulty path taken
- Section (Reading & Writing vs. Math)
Example: Reading & Writing Conversion
Scenario: Student gets 18 correct in Module 1 (triggers Hard Module 2) and 20 correct in Module 2
Calculation:
- Total raw score: 18 + 20 = 38
- Path: Hard Module 2
- Scaled score lookup: 38 correct on Hard path = ~690-710
Step 4: Calculate Total Score
Your total SAT score (400-1600) is the sum of your two section scores:
- Total Score = Reading & Writing Score (200-800) + Math Score (200-800)
4. Adaptive Module Explanation
The Digital SAT's adaptive nature is its most distinctive feature. Understanding how this works is crucial for interpreting your scores.
How Adaptive Testing Works
Unlike the paper SAT where all students see the same questions, the Digital SAT adapts to your performance:
- Module 1: All students start with a medium-difficulty Module 1
- Routing: Your performance determines which Module 2 you receive
- Module 2: You'll get an easy, medium, or hard Module 2 based on Module 1 results
- Scoring: Module 2 difficulty affects how your raw scores convert to scaled scores

Important Adaptive Considerations
- No Single Answer: Two students with the same total raw score can have different scaled scores depending on their pathway
- Module 1 Matters: Strong performance in Module 1 is crucial for reaching the highest score ranges
- Recovery Possible: If you get the hard module but struggle, you'll still receive a fair score for your overall performance
- No Penalty: Getting the easy module doesn't mean a "bad" score—it means the test is adapting to assess your skills accurately

We estimate which Module 2 you would receive based on Module 1 performance, but:

3. Test-Taking Conditions
Practice test scores may differ from actual test scores due to:

4. Score Range Accuracy
We provide point estimates, but understand that:
- All SAT scores have a measurement error of approximately ±30-40 points
- Scores near section boundaries (e.g., 695 vs. 705) are particularly sensitive to small changes
